Casual Non-Teaching employees work in various positions within the Regional Centre at various sites including Schools, Bus Garages, Family Offices and Central Office. A casual non-teaching employee is an employee who is on call when work is required. There are no guarantee hours of work with casual employment. However, by working as a casual employee, you have the ability to determine your schedule by only selecting days, or periods of time, that you would be available to work.

There are four (4) Families of Schools within the CCRCE:

Celtic Family (Pictou County)
Chignecto Family (Cumberland County)
Cobequid Family (Colchester County)
Nova Family (Municipality of East Hants)

Casual opportunities are posted by Family of Schools. If you are approved for the casual list, you can select the schools you would like to work in within that Family.

Helpful information regarding the hiring process.

The hiring process for casual positions can take 4-6 weeks to complete. The selection for hire will be determined after an interview and appropriate references have been contacted. At that time, you will be sent a hire package from the CCRCE’s Human Resources Department. You will be required to complete all forms and return to Human Resources before you can commence employment.
After Human Resources verifies your hire paperwork you will be provided with AESOP login information. AESOP is used to secure casual (substitute) employees when work is available. When active in AESOP, you will be able to select the applicable schools you would like to work in and update your availability.
If you are hired as a casual employee and have not worked within six (6) months from your date of hire, you will be removed from the causal employee list. If you wish to be reconsidered for casual employment you will need to reapply to the applicable position(s).
Pay for casual employees occurs two weeks after time worked. For example, any casual time worked from August 28, 2022 to September 10, 2022, will be paid on September 22, 2022, via direct deposit. A pay schedule will be included in your hire package.
If you are a successful applicant for a casual non-teaching position:
- You will be required to provide a copy of your education, including post-secondary as related to the position you have been hired for.
- You will be required to provide copies of current certifications (e.g. First Aid), if applicable, as related to the position you have been hired for.
